One man's take on AGPLA...

LOL- my husband offered to go with me to AGPLA so I wouldn't have to go alone. But I decided to take my aunt out to dinner there and go shopping with her so he was spared.

I did tell him I might really love to go for my birthday/Christmas in December and see the holiday displays with him and have lunch or dinner.

Overall, my husband is mostly supportive of my collecting by not caring if I spend money on it and letting me have dolls everywhere in the house. He doesn't care much for discussing it or anything, but he did remark, on seeing Josie's Sarape and Hat, "OK, that IS a pretty cool outfit" and when I caught him readjusting Elizabeth's pose he explained, "She looked uncomfortable." Hee-hee- they say funny things sometimes.

The stuff about the tattooed guys cracks me up. DH is more punk than heavy metal, but he has tattoos and we both have (dyed) black hair currently. It's funny- this is what you get in LA. We know people who have little kids with mohawks and tiny punk outfits- LOL- when we have a baby we want the little onesie that says "Mommy's Little Monster" from Social Distortion. LA is a fun city for people watching- lots of diversity!

That is so neat. i was talking with my daughter and son about our trip to AGPLA next week and Elly was going on about Jess etc etc. My 4 year old son had his hands crossed over and was pouting.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I want to get a boy doll but they don't have any."

I thought that was so cute!

So funny! And I have to say, a guy who would brave AGPLA with you is a real keeper.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed his comments as much as me! I just remembered two more, guys:

"No no, I'll carry it. I'm secure in my masculinity." (holding the basket of doll clothes)

And,

"The doll has a doll? Does that doll have a suitcase with a doll? Does it, like, go back into infinity of dolls having dolls like one of those paintings?"

LOL!!! You're killing me!! Love Paul's sense of humour!

I will add that I think AG would be surprised at the market they could have if they made boy dolls too. I did a "colonial day" at my mom's sixth grade class and the boys loved it all- and this was in a pretty tough neighborhood. The boys informed me that Felicity's riding habit was "tight" and everyone loved Addy (they'd read Meet Addy for part of the history unit on the Civil War). The boys seemed as interested in the clothing and miniatures as the girl- I think even younger boys might like a boy doll. I never did get why they stopped making BB boy clothes (aside from the BT). Our New Baby had equal amounts of boy and girl clothes and you could pick a starter collection for a boy or a girl. I thought that was neat- some little girls might want to have a boy baby.

Yeah, that's about what my boyfriend would do if he wasn't blindingly scared of dolls. He's honestly afraid he'll come over sometime and see hundreds of them, all smiling their little smiles and holding knives, like children of the corn.

Also, "Face" the doll is the single best thing I've ever read. I'm dying over here. Kids are hardcore awesome.
